Racehorse
Names
Racehorse names have intrigued many racing fans over
the years because of their inventiveness and sometimes downright
humor of the names. But, there is also a certain machismo in picking
racehorse names. For instance, who wouldn't want to bet on a horse
called Bold Ruler, Exterminator, Assault or Man O' War?
But, as much as racehorse names can be laden with testosterone,
there are many owners who have quite a sense of humor as
well and tend to reject the bravado of many sports in lieu
of some more clever names. As example the owners of the
following racehorses definitely had to have a sense of humor:
Cigar, Da Hoss, Funny Cide, Greyhound, Rambling Willie,
Seabiscuit, Smarty Jones and Tom Fool.
Besides the bravado and the humorous, those who name racehorses
have also had the tendency to equate dancing with horses
as there have been plenty of racehorse names that refer
to being light on one's foot (or hoof).

Dancer's Image, Native Dancer and Northern Dancer are all famous
racehorses who have tripped the light fantastic past the finish
line on many occasions.
This also brings to mind, however, what constitutes a good racehorse
name from a bad one? So, we thought it was our duty to clarify this
area and present both good and bad racehorse names for public scrutiny
to show a clear and unmistakable contrast between the two.

Of course, the meanings of racehorse names vary widely. From instilling
fear via bravado, or a smile with silliness, racehorse names have
had people talking for decades. The meaning behind a racehorse name
equated with dance is obvious, but there are some racehorse names
that only the owner is privy in knowing the meaning. Duke of Magenta
anyone?
